Message from Dr Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation about the community donations in partnership with The First Lady of Niger in the country.

I am very proud of our partnership with H.E.AISSATA ISSOUFOU MAHAMADOU, The First Lady of Niger, President of the GURI Vie Meilleure Foundation to help retirees and boarders in Niamey, Niger.

As you know, the unprecedented scale of the covid-19 health crisis has forced the government of Niger to take containment measures.  A strategy that has helped limit the spread of the pandemic, but has proven difficult for the elderly, women, casual workers who are in vulnerable situations.

Therefore, I am happy that Merck foundation partnered with, H.E.AISSATA ISSOUFOU MAHAMADOU, First Lady and President of the Guri Vie Meilleure Foundation, who is also Ambassador of Merck More Than a Mother to set up solidarity food kits in connection to support retired people and residents of Niamey.

This donation is made up of:

  • 4 tons of rice
  • 4 tons of cowpea
  • 165 soap boxes
  • 828 liters of oil

Each beneficiary had:

  • 1 bag of 25 kg of rice
  • 1 bag of 25 kg of cowpea
  • 1 carton of Lavibel soap
  • 1 can of 5 liters of oil

For the respect of barrier gestures and measures of social distancing in order to avoid the transmission of the coronavirus, the donation of the kits was done to each group 20.”
