It was an immense honor to welcome and meet my dear sister,\u00a0H.E. Senator OLUREMI TINUBU, CON, The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Ambassador of Merck Foundation \u201cMore Than a Mother,\u201d at the 7th Edition of Merck Foundation First Ladies Initiative Summit 2025. It was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Frank Stangenberg-Haverkamp, Chairman of Merck Foundation Board of Trustees, and myself,<\/strong>\u00a0Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation & President of Merck Foundation First Ladies Initiative, along with H.E. Senator OLUREMI TINUBU, CON\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0First Ladies of<\/strong>\u00a0Angola, Cabo Verde, Central African Republic, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Maldives, Mozambique, S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe, Senegal, and Zimbabwe.<\/strong><\/p>

Merck Foundation Chairman, CEO, and 14 First Ladies inaugurate the 7th Edition of Merck Foundation First Ladies Initiative – MFFLI Summit<\/strong><\/em><\/p>

Together with my dear sister, we have achieved a lot, since our partnership journey began. We discussed our joint programs to transform patient care landscape and build healthcare capacity by providing scholarships for local Nigerian doctors. I am proud to share that till now we have provided\u00a063 scholarships<\/strong>\u00a0for local Nigerian doctors in many critical and underserved specialties like\u00a0Fertility, Embryology, Sexual and Reproductive Care, Women\u2019s Health, Oncology, Diabetes, Endocrinology, Preventative Cardiovascular, Cardiology and Obesity & Weight Management, Acute Medicine, Respiratory Care, Dermatology, Rheumatology, Critical Care, Psychiatry, Care for Older Person and Pain Management<\/strong>. Together, we will transform the future of patient care in Nigeria.<\/p>

Merck Foundation has overall provided\u00a02280 scholarships for doctors from 52 countries in 44 critica<\/strong>l and underserved specialties. Our vision is that everyone can lead healthy and happy life.\u00a0Moreover, as part of our\u00a0\u201cEducating Linda\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0program, we are supporting the education of 20 high-performing yet underprivileged schoolgirls annually in Nigeria, in partnership with The First Lady, empowering them to pursue their dreams and shape a brighter future. We have also launched seven children\u2019s storybooks\u2014\u201cMore Than a Mother,\u201d \u201cEducating Linda,\u201d \u201cJackline\u2019s Rescue,\u201d \u201cNot Who You Are,\u201d \u201cRide into the Future,\u201d \u201cSugar Free Jude,\u201d and \u201cMark\u2019s Pressure\u201d<\/strong>\u2014to address issues like breaking infertility stigma, supporting girl education, stopping GBV, and promoting diabetes and hypertension awareness.<\/p>

During the Summit, we announced the\u00a0Call for Applications<\/strong>\u00a0for our eight\u00a0Merck Foundation Awards in partnership with The First Lady of Nigeria, targeting Media, Musicians, Fashion Designers, Filmmakers, students, and new potential talents<\/strong>. These awards aim to inspire creative storytelling to address pressing issues like Breaking Infertility Stigma, Supporting Girl Education, Ending FGM, and Promoting Diabetes and Hypertension Awareness. I warmly invite Nigeria\u2019s young talents to submit their creative work to\u00a0submit@merck-foundation.com\u00a0by 30th September 2025 for \u201cMore Than a Mother\u201d awards and 30th October 2025 for \u201cDiabetes & Hypertension\u201d awards.<\/strong><\/p>
