Merck Foundation <\/strong>(https:\/\/Merck-Foundation.com)<\/strong>the philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA Germany released the Ninth Episode of their TV program \u201cOur Africa by Merck Foundation\u201d on Saturday, June 11, 2022 in KTN, Kenya, repeated on Wednesday<\/strong> and in Sunday, June 12 on NTV, Uganda, repeated on Thursday. <\/strong>The program also airs on TV GH One TV in Ghana, every Sunday, repeats every Monday, and repeats every Monday at 2 pm<\/strong>.<\/p>

The ninth episode of \u201cOur Africa by Merck Foundation\u201d addresses an important issue of \u201cStopping Gender-Based Violence (GBV)\u201d, the impact of this issue on communities and the need to address this issue. Previous episodes of the show have addressed the Importance of Early Detection and Prevention of Diabetes, Breaking the Infertility Stigma, Supporting Women\u2019s Education, Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle, Ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Coronavirus Health Awareness, and Sustainability and up-cycled fashion respectively. The TV program is receiving great reviews from viewers in three countries and social media followers across Africa and beyond.<\/p>

\u2018Our Africa by Merck Foundation\u2019<\/strong> is a pan African TV program<\/strong> that is conceptualized, produced, directed, and co-hosted by Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of the Merck Foundation <\/strong>to feature African Fashion Designers, Singers, and renowned experts from various domains with the goal of raising awareness and creating cultural change across Africa. The show is co-host <\/strong>by Brian Mulondo from Uganda.<\/strong><\/p>

Senator, Dr. Rasha College, CEO of the Merck Foundation<\/strong> stated, \u201cThe response to the TV program\u2018 Our Africa by Merck Foundation \u2019has been very positive and overwhelming. I am so happy that the TV program has been informative and entertaining at the same time. Today, we bring you the ninth episode focused on the issue of \u2018Stopping Gender -Based Violence\u2019. GBV is the most widespread but least visible human rights violation in the world. Gender -based violence affects 1 in 3 women in their lifetime, worldwide \u201d.<\/p>

\u201cWe discussed this very sensitive topic through our\u2018 Fashion and Art with Purpose \u2019community. I really admire Art and Fashion in Africa and I strongly believe that fashion and art should have a purpose beyond entertainment and being beautiful. They can contribute to be the voice of the voiceless and resonate in our communities. Through our program, we want to reach out to young people and other members of urban and rural communities across the continent to address and raise awareness about the wide range of social and health issues associated with Africa such as; Stopping GBV, Breaking Infertility Stigma, Ending Child Marriage, Supporting Women\u2019s Education, Ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Promoting Healthy Living, Prevention and Management of Diabetes and Coronavirus Health Awareness and more \u201c, he added. Dr. said. While gender-based violence (GBV) is not a problem unique to Africa, there is little doubt that the extent of the problem persists more severely on the continent than elsewhere in the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that, in 2013, 35% of women worldwide had experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. In contrast, 45.6% of women 15 years of age and older in Africa experienced the same.<\/p>

This high incidence of GBV in Africa can be attributed to low levels of education, exposure to violence elsewhere, patriarchal systems, accepting behavior of violence and gender inequality, and low access to information.<\/p>

In societies where justice is rarely achieved, knowledge of women\u2019s rights is limited, and exposure to violence is constant, the task of reducing GBV remains paramount.<\/p>

The ninth episode of \u201cOur Africa by Merck Foundation\u201d features Nancy, TV Presenter and Style Coach from GHONE TV, <\/strong>who shared tips on how to use fashion to build trust with women. The episode also featured children and talented designers Gaone Mangogola<\/strong> from Botswana<\/strong> at Stephany \u2013 Lee Schmidt<\/strong> from Namibia<\/strong> who shared their designs showing STOP GBV messages.<\/p>

Senator, Dr. Rasha<\/strong> He further stressed, \u201cWe also launched awards for Media, Fashion Designers, Filmmakers, Musicians\/ Singers, and new potential talents in these fields from African countries to address the sensitive issue of GBV Cessation, and other issues such as Breaking Infertility Stigma, Supporting Girl Education, Women Empowerment, Ending Child Marriage and\/or Ending FGM. We run these competitions in collaboration with my dear sisters, the African First Ladies. I am excited and hope to receive applications to [email protected]\u201d.<\/p>
