Dr. EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU and Prof. Dr. Frank Stangenberg-Haverkamp \nChairman of both of Executive Board of E.Merck KG and Merck Foundation \nBoard of Trustees<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>The 8th Edition of \u201cMerck \nFoundation Africa Asia Luminary\u201d was co-chaired by H.E. ESTHER LUNGU, \nThe First Lady of the Republic of Zambia and Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej, \nCEO of Merck Foundation<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>African First Ladies of Angola,\n Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Democratic \nRepublic of Congo, Ghana, Guinea Conakry, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, \nand Namibia were the Guests of Honour for the Luminary.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>More than 75,000 participants, healthcare providers, policymakers, and academia from 70 countries attended the Luminary.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p><strong>\u200b<br>\nMerck Foundation<\/strong>, the philanthropic arm of Merck KgaA kickstarted the <strong>8th Edition of \u201cMerck Foundation Africa Asia Luminary\u201d<\/strong> on <strong>27th April 2021<\/strong>, through an online videoconference. It was co-chaired by <strong>H.E. Mrs ESTHER LUNGU, The First Lady of the Republic of Zambia<\/strong> and <strong>Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation.<\/strong><br><br>\nDuring his keynote speech, while inaugurating the conference, <strong>The President of Zambia, H.E Dr. EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU<\/strong>\n emphasized, \u201cI am very glad to be hosting this important conference \ntogether with Merck Foundation, our long term strategic partner. It is a\n great honor to inaugurate the conference alongside the First Ladies of \nAfrica. I am certain that this conference will help us to further \nexplore partnership opportunities and introduce new frameworks for \ncooperation in the area of health care capacity building and to define \ninterventions to break infertility stigma and support girl education.\u201d<br><br><strong>Prof. Dr. Frank Stangenberg-Haverkamp Chairman of both of Executive Board of E.Merck KG and Merck Foundation Board of Trustees<\/strong>\n expressed, \u201cI would like to welcome and also thank our partners, \nAfrican First Ladies, African Ministers and health experts from Africa, \nAsia, Latin America, and the rest of the world to join hands with us in \norder to realize Merck Foundation\u2019s vision: <strong>\u2018Everyone in the world should lead a happy and fulfilling life\u2019<\/strong>, we have achieved together, a huge success and we are going to continue and extend our support to achieve more.\u201d<br><br>\nDuring her Keynote address and welcome speech, <strong>H.E. Mrs. ESTHER LUNGU, The First Lady of Zambia and Co-chairperson of Merck Foundation Africa Asia Luminary 2021<\/strong>\n emphasized, \u201cI am very happy to co-chair and host this important \nconference of Merck Foundation and also to celebrate together the 4th \nanniversary of Merck Foundation, our long term partner in building \nhealthcare capacity and improving access to health, information and \nbreaking the infertility stigma. Also, I am delighted to have my dear \nsisters, The First Ladies of Africa at this conference.\u201d<br><br><strong>Merck Foundation CEO, Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej<\/strong> emphasized, \u201cWe welcomed <strong>The First Ladies of 13 African Countries<\/strong>, who are also the <strong>Ambassadors of Merck Foundation More than a Mother,<\/strong>\n to this important conference. Together, we have worked closely \nthroughout the years on a strong strategy to build healthcare capacity \nby providing specialized training in various specialties; and define \ninterventions to break infertility stigma and support girls\u2019 education.<br><br>\nI am very proud that we have so far provided for more than 1100 Doctors \nfrom 42 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America with one &amp; \ntwo-, three-year specialty training in multiple fields such as Oncology,\n Diabetes, Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine, Endocrinology, Sexual \nand Reproductive Medicine, Acute Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Human \nAssisted Reproduction and Embryology &amp; Fertility specialty, to be \nthe first in their countries. Moreover, we have now widened our horizons\n by introducing more scholarships for young doctors in many new \nunderserved specialties across Africa and Asia.\u201d<br><br>\nThe 8th Edition of the Luminary marked another important milestone: the <strong>4th Anniversary of Merck Foundation.<\/strong><br><br>\nAs part of the Luminary, <strong>Merck Foundation First Ladies Initiative Committee (MFFLI) High-Level Panel<\/strong> was conducted, which was attended by the <strong>13 African First Ladies<\/strong>, who are the <strong>Ambassadors of Merck Foundation More Than a Mother.<\/strong><br><br>\nThe keynote address was delivered by <strong>H.E. Mrs. ESTHER LUNGU<\/strong>, <strong>The First Lady of the Republic of Zambia<\/strong> as the host and co-chairperson of the conference along with\n\n<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>H.E.
